Source: Monster Manual 5e

Beholders are a terrifying force of the Underdark. A massive aberration with it's body resembling that of a cyclopsean head that has been molded around it's massive eye. The largest eye is known for it's Antimagic properties, capable of rendering even the strongest of wizard's and sorceror's unable to cast their spells and defend themselves. The beholder is also known for a great deal of other abilities, rather versatile ones.

The eyestalks of the beholder each hold a powerful form of innate magic that can easily incapacitate or kill an unsuspecting adventurer. If the Beholder wishes to simply incapacitate a foe, they need only use their Charm, Fear, Paralysis, Sleep, Slowing or Pertification rays; however if a Beholder wishes you dead they have a terrifying repetoir of Enervation, Disintegeration, Telekinetic and even Death rays.
